CCRI in Sri Lanka
During the discussions NDF organized with the traditional rice conserving community, a problem tree making session conducted. About forty community members and civil society representatives participated. The objective was to identify internal and external threats on the community and the livelihood. Participants are discussing on a traditional rice specimen brought by a farmer. Traditional rice varieties are becoming popular claiming number of beneficial attributes over modern high yielding counterparts. Ability to grow with minimum inputs, tolerance to extreme climate risks due to floods and droughts, nutritional and medicinal properties and symbolic value on cultural identity are some of them.
